Try Sail 2017 - Thankyou
PYSC held its annual Try Sail day last Sunday afternoon as part of the RYA "Push the Boat Out" initiative to get more people onto the water. In glorious sunshine, the event can be considered to have been a great success, not only letting the local community know what goes on at Sugar Loaf beach, but also giving over 90 people the chance to experience sailing off Portishead. For the majority of visitors it was the first time that they had ever been on a sailing dinghy. We have already had a number of people sign up for the training course and also to become members of the club.
Over the course of the afternoon we managed to get around 15 different boats onto the water, including Picos, Toppers, Visions, a Feva, Wayfarers and 420s. It was great to see all of the club's boats on the water, and for many of the clubs experienced sailors it was a first chance to learn how to rig and sail a Vision. The PYSC cadets were out in force, and spent almost 3 hours on the water, and indeed, if they hadn't been brought in by the rescue boat, two of our juniors would probably still be on their way down the Bristol Channel.
Thanks must go to all of the club members who put a great effort into making the event a success.
