Portishead Yacht & Sailing Club
This is the sailing program from today onwards. The time is the start of the race thus your boat will have to be in the water speeding over the start line at that time.
The rescue boats will be on the water from the race start time to approximately High water if you would like to go cruising, please check the exact time with the OOD
TrainingWe will be running six on water training sessions this year with flexible guided training provided by our members (dates below), and a number of shore based training sessions.
Additionally in 2017 we will be running a beginners course on 24-25th June and 15-16th July. The first weekend will be taught at Portishead marina on single handed Topper dinghies, the second weekend will be taught at Sugarloaf bay in 2-3 man Vision dinghies with instructors alongside you. This course aims to get attendees familiar with the basics of sailing, and confident with sailing in the conditions found in the Bristol channel, alongside experienced sailors. Discounts will be available for those joining PYSC. For more information contact email@example.com
For information about junior sailing training please see our 'cadets' section.
Our aim is to teach a range of sailing skills to our junior members in the safe environment of the Lake Grounds and when the time is right introduce them gradually with our full support to the more challenging conditions found off of the club at Sugar Loaf Beach.
PYSC follow a syllabus based on the RYA Scheme to teach Cadets to sail or improve their skills.
We run a thriving Cadets section open to all Junior and young Family Members, numbers will be limited for some sessions, so please get in touch to see if we can accommodate you (minimum age 8).
Saturdays - 9.30 at the Lake grounds (or sometimes at the marina) - structured training by volunteer instructors
Thursdays (July-Sept) - 5-8pm fun sailing. There is no instruction at these sessions. Adults are welcome at these sessions too.
Please always check the website for whether a session is running each week.
As cadets progress we encourage them to attend any of the main sailing events and race in Class 3, where they can be closely supervised, or sail as crew and learn to use spinnakers and trapezes.
